YBID Exterior Enhancement Grant

The YBID Exterior Enhancement Grant is a micro-grant program designed to support visible exterior improvements to commercial buildings within the Yorkton Business Improvement District.

The goal of the program is to encourage property owners and businesses to invest in improvements that enhance the appearance of buildings, strengthen the overall character of the district, and contribute to a more vibrant and welcoming business area.

This program focuses on projects that create a visible impact from the street, such as façade painting and new signage.

Program Overview

  • Grant Amount: Up to $5,000

  • Funding Structure: Up to 50% of eligible project costs

  • Minimum Project Spend: $1,000

  • Projects Must Be Completed By: December 31, 2026

Funding will be awarded to projects that demonstrate the greatest potential to improve the appearance of the district and create visible exterior enhancements.

Eligible Applicants

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Property owners within the YBID boundaries OR Business tenants with written approval from the property owner

  • Property must be located within the Yorkton Business Improvement District

Eligible Improvements

The program focuses on exterior building improvements that are visible from the street.

Examples include:

  • Façade painting or exterior finishing

  • New or upgraded building signage

  • Exterior lighting

  • Awning or canopy improvements

  • Exterior façade materials or cladding

  • Decorative building improvements including murals or public art

Projects that create a strong visual improvement to the building exterior will be prioritized.

Ineligible Improvements

The following are not eligible for funding:

  • Landscaping

  • Parking lots

  • Sidewalks

  • Interior renovations

  • Routine maintenance

  • Work started before grant approval
     

How Projects Are Evaluated

Projects are evaluated based on their potential impact on the appearance of the district. Priority is given to projects that:

  • Create a visible transformation to the building exterior

  • Improve the surrounding streetscape

  • Demonstrate meaningful private investment

  • Are ready to proceed and complete within 2026

Application Timeline

Round 1 Application Deadline: April 5th, 2026

Applications will be reviewed by a YBID committee and recommended projects will be approved based on available funding.

Payment

Grants are issued after the project is completed and require:

  • Paid invoices

  • Before and after photos
